Intervention description

The Independent Travel Training scheme helps children with special educational needs (SEN) travel to school on public transport.

This project offers early intervention to young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) by providing travel training, enabling them to use public transport independently, reducing their reliance on specialist door to door transport and leading to greater social inclusion. A team of trainers provides tailored support to help people build transferable skills to travel safely. They provide assessment, practical training and advice to young people, support for parents and carers and a service to the local authority and its schools.

Outcomes

Completion of independent travel training course

Maintained independence of one term

Maintained independence for one year
