Leaza McSorley is an economist at the Government Outcomes Lab.
She leads economic analysis on projects in the areas including macroeconomics, regional economies and labour markets, regeneration, productivity and value in public services.
Prior to joining the GO Lab Leaza was at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research where she was senior research manager for macroeconomics, delivering macroeconomic analysis, policy foresight and co-ordinating the Business Conditions Forum of leading industry economists. She has led large-scale, multi-agency academic and policy research projects including as Principal Investigator of an ESRC funded project on productivity.
She was an ESRC Impact Prize finalist in 2022, in the category of ‘Outstanding public policy impact’ for her work as a co-investigator of the Productivity Insights Network, where she developed a new framework for inclusive productivity and was lead academic supporting the Early Career Research Network.
An experienced policy advisor Leaza has delivered research and policy advice to the UK Government, Government Office for Science, Scottish Government, European Commission, Council of the European Union, OECD and ILO. She started her career as a local government policy officer in economic development focusing on youth unemployment, regeneration and community planning. She has worked in the private sector as an economist and economic consultant.
