Throughout Val’s career in the housing, charitable and public sectors her focus has been on getting services working better for, and with, the people who need them. She is currently leading the cross UK Government Changing Futures Programme which aims to improve services and systems to better serve people experiencing combinations of homelessness, substance misuse, mental health issues, domestic abuse and contact with the criminal justice system.
Previous roles have included head of the Centre for Social Impact Bonds at the Department for Culture Media and Sport, Head of Homelessness Delivery at the then Department for Housing, Communities and Local Government, and Director of Services at the national youth homelessness charity Depaul UK.
