Time 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

About the session

This webinar session follows on from the Social Impact Bonds: from Myth to Reality East of England Regional Conference we hosted in February 2018. It aims to bring together local government and service providers representatives from the region, who are looking to share their experience around the development of SIBs and other outcomes-based approaches and to learn from each other.

On Wednesday 23rd May at 10am, the East of England LGA and the Government Outcomes Lab will host an online webinar for those who want to continue the conversation – with us and each other.

We are all facing unprecedented challenges, and we all need to learn from each other about how we are going about designing and delivering services that focus on better outcomes for citizens. (And while Social Impact Bonds are one tool which might help, there are other innovations happening, too).

Overview

At the session, we will discuss some of the questions we didn’t get to cover at the conference, such as:

  • Would it be possible to improve performance management and improve children's outcomes without going through a SIBs?
  • We have found that we can get officer buy-in, but not senior management and political support for feasible SIB proposals. How do we get corporate buy in from local authorities?
  • How do you reconcile the conflicts between the financial imperatives of achieving outcomes and the needs of the individuals concerned? Are there financial pressures that may result in the wrong outcome for an individual?
  • The coordination work involved in implementing SIBs is costly. Who should pay for it if the investor is not willing to assume this role?

The EELGA and GO Lab want to provide a safe space where you can keep learning from each other about how to better commission for outcomes. We want to help you:

  • Share the triumphs, but also the tribulations, of taking an innovative approach in your Authority.
  • Help you build confidence in pursuing change.
  • Provide a unique forum for you to share challenges in a supportive environment away from your day-to-day pressures (even if just for an hour!)

At the webinar, we will assess whether there is appetite to form an ongoing ‘community of practice’ around these issues.
