Houman Haddad

Head of Emerging Technologies, United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)

Houman Haddad, CFA, is the Head of Emerging Technologies at the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). Houman is the founder of WFP’s “Building Blocks” project, which seeks to harness the power of blockchain to foster interagency collaboration and create efficiencies. Building Blocks is the world’s largest implementation of blockchain technology for humanitarian assistance, currently serving 106,000 Syrian refugees in Jordan. Blockchain technology also has the potential to empower the vulnerable through financial inclusion and digital identities. In 2010, Houman joined WFP as a treasury officer and prior to WFP Houman worked in Canada’s banking sector.

Senior Adviser, Ministry of Finance, Finland

Teemu Kääriäinen is a senior advisor in the Public Sector ICT Department of the Finnish Ministry of Finance. Currently Teemu is taking part in several national and cross-border initiatives related to digital identities. These include the national digital identification development program (https://vm.fi/en/digital-identity) where Finland is building a new digital ID solution based on the concepts of self-sovereignty and government-issued core identity. Additionally Teemu takes part in the national coordination of the eIDAS regulation revision, EUDI Toolbox, and the Finnish involvement in the Large-Scale Piloting of EUDI Wallets. Teemu has over 15 years of experience designing, architecting, building, and deploying business-critical digital identity solutions.

Areti Kampyli is a serial entrepreneur with 18 years of experience in product innovation, complex social impact projects, and a track record of developing award-winning products. Areti is the CEO of Alice, a former corporate advertising manager at Ogilvy & Mather and a former co-founder of Yasmo, a networking app, which she turned profitable in less than two years.

As well as leading impact measurement innovation at Alice, she manages all client operations and has won several government Research and Development grants, including two high-profile UK government grants and projects funded by Vodafone UK, and several Blockchain companies. She's a regular speaker at social and Blockchain conferences including Bond, the EU's Global Blockchain Congress, and Coindesk. Areti holds an MSc in Media & Communications from the London School of Economics.

Luigi is an innovator, an entrepreneur and a mentor that invested the last seventeen years working on distributed systems, enterprise software, e-negotiations, Future Internet architectures and protocols. In 2006 he created the first peer to peer negotiation system for SMEs called “Open Negotiation Environment”, a research project funded by the European Union in FP6, that proved the possibility to run business negotiations in a peer-to-peer network before the advent of the blockchain. Luigi is also the coordinator of Open Trust Fabric initiative and of the European Commission feasibility and methodological study on “Modelling the EU economy as an ecosystem of contracts”.
