We are now accepting nominations for next year’s GO Lab Visiting Fellows of Practice programme.

Applications are now closed.

We are looking for outstanding individuals with an extensive track record of public service and a commitment to the mission of the GO Lab. The Fellowship offers experienced professionals from outside academia the chance to shape our work so that it remains responsive and relevant to policymakers and practitioners the world over. It is also a unique opportunity to become part of our intellectual community at the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford. Fellowships are awarded for one year, and each Visiting Fellow of Practice contributes to our work in many different ways, depending on their areas of expertise and interest.

If you would like to nominate someone to become a Fellow, please ask them to complete the nomination form and send their CV to golab@bsg.ox.ac.uk. Nominees will be asked to name their nominator, but self-nominations will also be accepted and no distinction will be made according to who nominates. The deadline for nominations is noon on Monday 20 September 2021. Successful appointments will be confirmed in December 2021, with the Fellowship commencing in January 2022.

Over the past four years we have worked with a hugely diverse and inspiring group of individuals through the Fellowship programme. From participating in our engagement activities and helping develop knowledge resources, to providing insights to feed into our research and co-authoring pieces, they have all made invaluable contributions to our work. You can find out more about current and past GO Lab Visiting Fellows of Practice here.

Every year the Government Outcomes Lab appoints a small number of leading experts from across the public, private and voluntary sectors as GO Lab Fellows of Practice. This is a pro-bono position, usually offered for one year. The Fellows offer their practical expertise and knowledge and help to further the mission of the GO Lab.

The GO Lab Visiting Fellows of Practice contribute flexibly to our work in many different ways, including:

  • Sharing intelligence, news, and updates from their work, and their sector more broadly
  • Providing input into our research and analytical work
  • Authoring and reviewing written pieces for the GO Lab Digital Knowledge Hub
  • Speaking at our events and online convenings
  • Sharing learning to strengthen the global community of practitioners
  • Disseminating GO Lab research findings and knowledge resources within their own networking
  • Helping GO Lab reach new audiences and establish new partnerships

Individual contributions are agreed with each Fellow prior to the start of the Fellowship, and are subject to review and amendments throughout the year, to ensure continued alignment with and relevance to GO Lab priorities.

There are four core selection criteria for the Fellowship:

Alignment with GO Lab mission and values, and clear scope for concrete contributions around at least one specific area of work (across our research and/or capacity-building work);

Expertise. We seek experienced professionals with extensive and in-depth expertise on areas that are relevant to current GO Lab strands of work

Skills. The Fellows are thoughtful and critical thinkers, who demonstrate intellectual curiosity about our core areas of research and have the ability to contribute effectively to our capacity building work (e.g. speaking at events, contributing to knowledge resources)

Opinion leadership. We look for individuals recognised as leading experts within their respective fields or areas of work, and are influential among their peers or within their professional networks.

In particular, for 2022 we are looking for Visiting Fellows of Practice who can support one or more of our current working priorities:

  • Outcomes-based contracting
  • Outcomes orientation
  • Procurement and social value
  • Measuring outcomes and value for money
  • Government, business and civil society collaboration
  • The International Network for Data on Impact and Government Outcomes (INDIGO)
  • Community and capacity-building

Nominations will be reviewed by GO Lab’s senior management team, and recommendations will be submitted to the Blavatnik  School of Government Appointments Committee for decision. For further information on our selection criteria and the process, you can contact Policy and Engagement Manager, Andreea Anastasiu.
