Organisation: The Government Outcomes Lab
This session showcased a number of initiatives where data on outcomes plays a key role in shaping decisions. Producing and using data on outcome metrics, targets and achievements takes time and effort. In this session, we discussed the metrics and indexes that are used the most, how they feed further decision-making processes and the trade-offs that happen when data is transformed into action.
Sessions 2.3 showcased a number of initiatives where data on outcomes plays a key role in shaping decisions. Benoit Renard, Tiko, shared experiences from Kenya on using data to improve services, while Tomas Bokström, Rise Sweden, emphasized co-creating logic models for effective data use. Valery Wichman, Pacific Regional, presented the Cook Islands' long-term strategy incorporating dynamic metrics for happiness, and Dr. Sabina Alkire, Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative, discussed using multidimensional poverty metrics to track and celebrate progress in poverty reduction. These presentations showcased practical data use in local governance and long-term strategic planning, with an emphasis on simplicity and relevance in data collection. Dr Julia Mensink, Acumen, reminded us that when it comes to data gathering, “if you don’t use it, lose it!”.
