The Utkrisht Impact Bond: Design Grant Case Study

This case study was developed by the partners of The Utkrisht Development Impact bond (DIB), to share insights on its conception, design, and management. The Utkrisht DIB was the world’s largest and first healthcare Development Impact Bond, bringing together private and public sector actors. The case provides an overview of the design process, stipulating learnings for developing multi-stakeholder financing structures.

Key insights are included for practitioners interested in establishing impact bonds, as well as for funders interested in supporting these mechanisms. Themes extend from: the ‘design and fundraising process’, with scope from the DIBs inception, (including an overview of key stakeholders, intervention model, metric selection, pricing and payments plan, contracting and implementation) to the broader overview (including, detailed payment structure and reporting framework, governance, legal structure and  partnerships with local government).
